Mini-Symposium: The U.S. and International Earth Observation from Space Program of Record
Wednesday, June 29th, 2022
9:00AM – 12:00 Noon PDT
Abstract:
This virtual mini-symposium will consist of four invited presentations of 30 minutes each, followed by moderated discussion, as follows:
- NASA Earth Science Program of Record (Waleed Abdalati)
- NOAA/NESDIS Program of Record (Michael Bonadonna)
- USGS Program of Record (Tim Stryker)
- International Program of Record (Mark Dowell, Jeff Privette, Wenying Su, Jörg Schulz)
- Moderated Discussion (Stacey Boland)
This mini-symposium serves to provide valuable background material for the KISS Study on Developing a Continuity Framework for Satellite Observations of Climate. The overall goal of this study program is to help accelerate discussions and plans for a greater and more impactful U.S. contribution to the global climate observing system.
This event leverages and contributes to the JPL CCS series of mini-symposia focused on “The Essential Role of Long-term Satellite Records for Climate Science and Monitoring.” The objectives of this series are:
- to raise the visibility of the remarkable role and importance of the long-term satellite climate records currently in existence;
- to highlight critical accomplishments in selected areas; and
- to review challenges in sustaining a climate monitoring system.
This event is being co-sponsored by the JPL Center for Climate Sciences (CCS) and the Keck Institute for Space Studies (KISS).
